Little biographical information concerning
Borlase Smart was available until fairly recently, when David
Tovey published his excellent series of books
(2003-2010) and Marion Whybrow published "Borlase
Smart: St Ives Artist - Man of Vision" (2012),
which may be regarded as the definitive work - see
publications.
A brief biography is available on the Cornwall
Artists Index - this is an excellent resource,
designed to preserve and make accessible the invaluable
history of the art and artists of Cornwall.
The purpose of this website is to provide a lasting tribute
to one of St Ives' finest artists, to showcase many rare
examples of his work and to add fascinating new 'snippets'
of information as they are discovered in various archives.
